Mackerel Egg Survey 2022

An opportunity to participate in the Marine Institute’s Mackerel and Horse Mackerel egg survey from west of the Shannon to the Bay of Biscay is being offered through SMART’s Training Through Research Surveys (TTRS) scheme. This survey will take place over two legs between March and July.

Brendan O’Hea will lead an experienced team of biologists from the Marine Institute along a series of transects deploying a Gulf V11 plankton sampler and pelagic trawl to sample eggs, larvae and mackerel in the water column. CTD data will be collected by a sensor mounted on the Gulf VII. This survey will appeal to postgraduate students with a research interest in themes associated with fisheries biology, biological oceanography and marine megafauna.
