INFOMAR is a collaboration between the Marine Institute and Geological Survey Ireland, to map Ireland’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). At 880,000 square kilometers—over 10 times the size of Ireland’s land area—this project is essential for understanding and managing the country’s vast marine resources. The mapping includes physical, chemical, and biological features of the seafloor, vital for responsible resource stewardship.
INFOMAR’s Impact
INFOMAR plays a critical role in:
- Protecting the marine environment
- Managing Ireland’s natural marine resources
- Supporting the Climate Action Plan
- Enabling marine renewable energy projects
- Facilitating undersea communication networks
- Enhancing national security
- Improving shipping and navigation
- Understanding coastal dynamics
