Join Irish Anglerfish and Megrim Survey (IAMS) 2026

The Irish Anglerfish and Megrim Survey 2026 (IAMS) marks the tenth survey in a series began by the Marine Institute in 2016. IAMS data collection aims to improve the assessment of monkfish and megrim stocks around Ireland, while also expanding maturity sampling of other commercially important species. The survey concentrates on waters to the west and north of Ireland.

Survey Objectives

Stock Assessment: Improve monitoring and evaluation of monkfish and megrim stocks.

Expanded Sampling: Collect maturity data for other commercially important species, supporting sustainable fisheries management.

Key Activities

Participants will gain hands-on experience in:

  • Biometric data collection for monkfish, megrim, other commercial species, and benthic invertebrates.
  • Biological sampling: covering all aspects from data collection and recording to biological screening, specimen preservation, and survey operations.

This is a unique opportunity to learn practical offshore fishery sampling and surveying skills.
