Join 2025 Nephrops Underwater TV Surveys (UWTV)

The 2025 Nephrops Underwater TV (UWTV) Surveys will take place on the RV Tom Crean in June, July, and August. These multidisciplinary surveys provide critical abundance and density estimates for Nephrops norvegicus on Ireland’s key fishing grounds. Data collection will include underwater TV (UWTV) footage, oceanographic readings (CTD drops), multi-beam bathymetry, seabed characterization, and other essential ecosystem data.

This is a fantastic opportunity for participants to gain hands-on experience in biological sampling, marine data collection, and multidisciplinary research methods.

What are UWTV Surveys?

UWTV surveys collect underwater footage to assess Nephrops burrow densities, which are then used to estimate stock abundance on important fishing grounds. In addition to camera footage, other crucial ecosystem and oceanographic data are collected to support comprehensive marine stock assessments.
